Special Ways to Update Your Computer’s Video Card

A video card is a hardware component in a computer. The function of this component is to generate and output images on the monitor screen. The quality of this device can affect the quality of screen display and the speed at which information is displayed. Upgrading a video card on your own is certainly the best way to enhance the computer without any extra pressure on your pocket. Many of you think the more expensive a device, the better it is. But this is not correct. There are graphics card available which are not highly priced & possess high picture quality. The functioning of it depends on the RAM and CPU. The computer should have appropriate amount of RAM and properly functioning CPU for the better performance of this device.

Upgrading the video card will influence the picture quality on the monitor and computer’s ability to process images. It can be done by visiting its support website & looking for any patches and new device drivers. Download and install these files and save them. This will bring a big leap in the performance of your graphics card. We also suggest that if your computer is old, you should consider upgrading the entire computer rather than video card only. However, ‘ATI’ & ‘NVidia’ device manufacturers are the best in class to be considered.

Investment to be done in upgrading a graphics card depends on the age & capability of your existing one. To determine your card, click on start, control panel, appearance & themes, display, settings. Here you see your video card name. Go to their web support site and check how old it is & its capabilities as of now. Now you know your existing card’s features and you can decide how much you want to invest in upgrading your video card. Be sure to delete all the software and the device driver of your old device. If the old device was embedded on the motherboard, do not forget to disable it before installing the new one.

Always make sure that the upgraded video card has appropriate video out connector. Flat panel monitors need DVI out connector. Regular CRT monitors require VGA connector & for video cards to be attached to televisions and VCR, SVGA connector is needed. Side by side make sure that you have a free hard driver connector or a long enough connector or otherwise buy a splitter/extension known as hard driver Y cable. This is because graphics card requires the use of a hard driver power connector in order to function properly.
